Black Guts Shiraz 2001

My first time having this wine. I’ve been holding on to it for a while! Shockingly still young and vibrant. I don’t know Australian wine well but this was a stud. — 4 years ago

The Judge Napa Valley Chardonnay 2015

@Mike R just being a plain old STUD. No better way to step off the plane than to be poured a glass and lots of SMILES. Honeyed apricot, Cara Cara orange, hyacinth. A big boy that needs time. — 5 years ago

Hyacinth?! Damn, Joe that’s some pretty impressive botanical nuance. I need to get out there and smell some more exotic flowers.

Château de Brézé

Crémant de Loire Chenin Blanc Blend

A sort of apricot forward, light frizzy marmalade herb, rosemary, mint bouquet. It’s subtle and almost graceful like a swan’s dance on the surface of water.

Love, love the unapologetic nature of the bubbles and effervescence. It’s the grand entrance to the ballroom. The backless gown that says I’m here because this party would not exist without me, or at least it would not be as great or fun or story-worthy. These are the jeans that are too tight, the pocket square that doesn’t match, the polka dot socks, the nose stud on the guy that’s got the best suit in the house, and just makes the whole damn thing work.

Drink it. Love it. Tell everyone.

Peach soda, light to medium body, umami and the tart sweetness of a ripe mango. Every magnetic sip bursting with pure discovery and, most of all, the thing people forget in high culture, regular old fun.

A double decant did wonders for this young stud.

Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

Reserve Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

Julienne Reserve was great tonight. Standard STUD from CDP. Elegant fruit with huge body and length. The Salon was beautiful. My one comment about that champagne is the little bubbles. So soft and fragrant. — 5 years ago

Really a beautiful merlot, great fruit and very approachable. Another great wine for Charles Smith. He is a stud! — 4 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2008

Way too soon for this stud of a wine, but I needed to compare it side by side with Cristal 08. Big, bold, in your face... lots of structure and acidity... notes of Apple core and lemon Dom I’ve had... but only showing glimpses of future glory. Sharing lots of nuance and notes with the Cristal... on this day the brooding power of the Dom came across a bit more dumb and slumbering. Patience required! — 5 years ago

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli

Antichi Vigneti Propri Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1964

Astounding amount of fruit for its age and it was still drinking well 90 minutes post pop. An enduring stud from @David L that was truly impressive. Not impressive in a “damn good for a 50 year old wine” way but just plain damn good. Resolved tannins, minimal bricking, palpable nose of violets, flavors of garrigue, bay leaf and bruised plum covered in damp earth. — 5 years ago

Did she hold together well or fade away in the glass? How was the acid?

Revisited ”blind” when someone asked me to try it @jesus g and it had full integrity. Stinky but stinky good and lots of earth. Not a ton of acid but there was some pucker....and while I can’t speak to other producers or storage obviously I was astounded by this @Michael Meyer
