Aging these entry level Spater-Veits is very rewarding. What a nose. Smells like a 1er Cru. Wow. Super fragrant. So floral. Gorgeous cherries. Really refined aromas. Just so pretty. Palate is sweet, elegant and juicy. Tangy with mid to early season cherries. Elegant sweet and ripe tannins on the lithe side. Really just a spectacular showing for a wine I sold for less than $20. This is a great wine and one of the prettiest I've opened in a long time. Not the best, not the most cerebral. Just gorgeous.
The aromatics in particular. Belting choir of thick fleshy dark red finger staining cherries reaching the upper registers of my nostrils way back deep. Ripe red cherries and potting soil, cedar, rosemary and salt-lick limestone. Harmonic and forming the softest sweetest landing.

Nose is fully secondary. Stunning red cherry fruit, sous bois, wild mint, wow this so outrageously complex and nuanced. Really genius. 9.6 nose. Wow. This is so much better than when I had it last time. Palate is so fresh and energetic. Sappy and sweet with terrific purity and length. Finish needs to fill out a bit but it’s all there. 9.4 for now. I love 2018 in the Mosel. If you nailed it it’s as good as 15. If you didn’t, well there’s always 19. Nose is quiet and closed. Some slate, honey, wild mint and hints of tangerine and peach flesh. Hint of vulcanized rubber. Palate is dynamite. Good acidity but so complex and deep. The depth here is more than the 15. A fresh, tangy honeyed richness just takes over the palate. It’s nimble and racey as well. What a mouthfeel and that icing on the cake texture. So delicious and awesome. — 2 months ago
Glowing red, spectrums you can see right through like diluted cranberry juice. Clear but not weak. Nothing insipid, that is, even at 11.5% ABV. That’s actually the previous spater veit in the glass and this wine is much darker. What a wine. Dark berries, dark blackberry, mint, mineral, tree bark, so complex and deep. Wow this is sick. So much black cherry. Genius. Earthy. Truffley. Has some masserata in it. Some weird freak grape. Wow what a palate. Silken, sexy and lush. Lovely blackberry and purple fruits. Like a wine jelly donut filling. Stunning freshness and depth and focused like a laser. Insane linearity. Lovely sweetness. This is incredible. What a revelation. Nose is developing wild mint now. Just a gorgeous wine. So complex, complete and unique! Wow wow wow.
