South Island Pinot Noir

Clos Henri

Petit Clos Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020

Light garnet color with a ruby core. The nose is dominated by smoke and funky slate with hints of rose petals and red berries. The red berry fruit extends to the palate along with hints of plum, dried herbs and pepper spice. Long finish. Firm tannins and medium-plus acidity. Very interesting. Mud House Wines

Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Dark cherry on the palate. Some Tannins providing dryness offsetting fruitiness common in Pinot Noir. This is a style typical of the Otago region and one that I like. January 2024. — 2 months ago

Vrede Pinot Noir 2021

Very pale and translucent. Predominately vegetal character. Nose is dominated by funky vegetal notes. Palate packs a punch but in an understated way. Strong negroni notes - orange and some strawberry. Serious unique wine that shows how pinot expresses place better than any grape. — 3 months ago

Never had a Marlborough Pinot before. Was having duck, so Pinot an obvious choice. Loved this. Light, which is what I was after, and slight fruity. — 5 days ago

Ata Rangi

Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

My first of 6. Smells like a full bodied Pinot Noir. The palate is rich with a lovely fruit sweetness, cherry and plum, and again, a full bodied Pinot Noir with intensity. Ticks all the boxes. Texture and the tannins are silky. Enough acid and tannin to go another 8 to 10 years. 98 points from HH. — 6 days ago

Central Otago Pinot Noir 2016

Yum! Love these Pinot noir wines from Central Otago, New Zealand. It is amazing how they are able to maintain this vibrant acidity under these hot arid conditions during the summer. What this heat does do, however, it provides this burnt earth under note to the fresh red fruit. Grippy finish with fine grained, but very present tannins. From 2016! This wine is very well crafted and disappeared way too fast!! — 2 months ago

I had trouble with New Zealand Pinots - In the past i was unimpressed - and therefore have avoided them.

@Pinotman /// Andreas totally agree. This was great. Maybe better due to good barrels? Not sure. Oh and it’s 13% ABV too so that helps.
