Nerello Cappuccio

Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days. Best on Day 2. The 2021 “Etna Rosso” pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with bright cherries and raspberries, carnations and rocky minerals. On the palate, medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This is a very pretty wine that wins you over with its charm and it’s versatile on the dinner table as well. Great QPR. Drink now with a little patience and through 2031. — 7 days ago

Ætneus Etna Rosso Nerello Blend 2011

I love that the vineyard is a mix of very old, middle aged and young vines. When an old one dies, they plant a young one. One of the best values in Etna Rosso. Mix of black and red fruit, little tannic, smoke and fire on the finish. — 2 months ago

Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a 90 minute period. No formal notes. The 2020 is an elegant Etna Rosso that wins you over with its beauty. The fruit is fresh and juicy and there are some lovely minerals. Balanced. Good structure. Not the most complex but it’s super easy to like and versatile enough for a variety of meals. Huge value. Drink now. — 3 months ago

Probably my favorite wine from Sicily! Plum, blueberry, cherry, anise, tobacco, earthy, and much more! Terrific with Chicken Marsala. — 5 days ago

Rosso di Verzella Etna Rosso Nerello Blend 2020

2020. I usually don’t get to the airport early enough to see what’s in the cruvinets behind the terminal bar, but I was really impressed by the “not your usual” selection. Used their app to order an Etna Bianco I hadn’t had before, and was surprised when my drink was delivered. Rosso from the same producer, so I understand the mixup, and very glad because it’s delicious! Good start to my Holiday vacation. — 2 months ago

Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2019

NOSE: barely there…tiniest whiff of red fruit….dried cherry?

TASTE: light bodied, dried cherry and currant, a little clay … nice acidity …. elegant, but a little simple. I like it - but no way worth what I paid. 89.

Good, yet not very ‘special’.
Paired it with Ottolenghi’s Orzo Puttanesca.
