Martinborough, Wairarapa

Dry River

Lovat Vineyard Syrah 2013

Dark Ruby red in colour. The over riding descriptor on nose and palate is black pepper. If you don’t like pepper in your reds (and I do) then you won’t like this. Just medium bodied from cool climate Martinborough (better known for excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). Touch of red licorice. Fine tannins and ultra peppery. — 15 days ago

Wasn’t sure what to expect here. Wow this wine Uber delivers. Very subtle and elegant. Red fruited and shows a lot of restraint. Really beautiful wine — 2 months ago

Dry River

Chardonnay 2014

I’ve always had a soft spot for New Zealand Chardonnay and this wine from Martinborough supports the theory. Mid Lemon in colour. Dusty citrus and honey notes. These descriptors transfer through to the palate with white peach and medium acid. A touch of pineapple juice. Another classy Chardonnay from New Zealand. — 20 days ago

@Keith Crump I have a few vintages. Wonderful Pinot. Do you agree they are at their best after 10 years?

Pinot Noir Doug Wisor Memorial Martinborough 2003

Smooth and elegant Pinot Noir from New Zealand. Still vibrant after 18 years. Lots of cherry. Strong but smooth tannins in the finish. Some slightly off flavors, but overall, tastes like an excellent Volnay or Pommard. — 21 days ago
