Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

Black cherry, spice and citrus form a beguiling display as the 2019 Montefalco Rosso comes to life. It’s silky and elegant, with acidity and mineral-laced red fruits that penetrate the palate, finishing with violets and grippy tannins. There’s a racy and fun character here. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2022) — 18 days ago

Arquata Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2017

Dark fruit, firm tannins, baking spice, sage. The Barbera and Merlot are a great compliment to the Sagrantino — a month ago

Montefalco Sagrantino 2010

Warning: do not open this young with little decanting and expect it to be like a Super Tuscan. I've had a 2010 in 2014, and it took hours to decant. This one is also a 2010 but much softer and more accessible. Lovely brick red with brown edges showing its age. Initial aromas of cocoa, roses, and plum, but as it opens, reveals spices and black cherry. — a month ago

Cerrete Sagrantino di Montefalco 2010

Big wine. Still dominating all foods on day three. Nearly oxidative, a pleasant dusty-ness evokes my grandmother’s cedar jewelry box. — 3 months ago

Adanti

Arquata Sagrantino di Montefalco 2010

Comparing two 2010 Sagrantino di Montefalcos. Both opened for an hour first. I thought the Adanti was a bit softer and more aromatic at first. But the Perticaia had more structure, depth and complexity. Decanted the Perticaia for dinner (only have one decanter) and it improved even more. In the past I thought the Adanti had quite a tannic punch. That has faded over the 3 years since I last opened one. — 4 months ago

Riserva Pipparello Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2008

Absolutely awesome on the pop and pour and just built up steam from there. The 2008 “Pipparello” is looking youthful at 14 years with a deep garnet color and opaque core. Loads of sediment though. On the nose, notes of dark cherry cordial, salmiakki, and fennel. The nose is ever so slightly volatile but not expecting a little of that from Bea would be unrealistic. On the palate, red bramble and blackberry preserves and all the near eastern spices you could want. Medium+ across the board; tannin, acid and alcohol. Incredible finish that is dry and lasts forever. As ever with the wines of Paolo and Giampiero; this is a wine with so much soul. In a fabulous place right now but will drink well through 2032. Delicious, full-bodied but not spicy, stood up to pasta wonderfully. Slightly chilled and decanted. Wonderful CDP alternative. — 2 months ago
