Mendoza Petit Verdot 2009

From last week (purchased at the winery in Mendoza in 2011). Really interesting flavor profile, with soft, integrated tannins. Definitely on the downslope, but still really good (and went great with the Snake River Farms Waygu Flat Iron steak I grilled for dinner!). — 6 days ago

Bodega Norton

Privada Family Blend 2015

This is a luscious blend of Malbec, Merlot & Cabernet that definutely improves with time in the glass and even into day 2 of being open. Aromas of blackberry, boyensberry up front followed hints of espresso & allspice. The pallate is quite smooth with plum and blackberry leading into cocoa and hints of smoke on long finish. Paired amazingly with 24 dry aged reverse seared NY strip steaks! ($22) [9/29/20] — 3 days ago

Quinto Malbec 2014

May be the age on the bottle talking, but this Malbec is singing! Medium purple on the eye with heavy blackberry and plum on the nose. On the pallet the full body is immediately apparent, some ripe dark fruit also present, chocolate and oak as well. The tannings are strong, nice balance to the wine and there is a pleasant finish. Bought this about five years ago and it is certainly a pleasant surprise. Again, lesson learned: never underestimate aging value wines, this is great. — 18 days ago

Finca la Escuela Colección Los Suelos La Piedra Malbec 2016

Dark & brooding with luscious black cherry & plum, a touch of leather & tar and a whiff of licorice. On the palate this is rich yet balanced, soft, suave, mouthcoating tannins and great juicy fruit balanced with nice acidity. Add a pinch of black pepper towards the finish. This is really nice, has character & precision, and is a perfect match for a tagliata on rucola. — 4 days ago

Medrano Estate

Bonarda 2019

Na verdade é o registro de um chardonay. Aroma bem frutificado, lembrando de maçã verde. Cor bem clara, de um amarelo quase verde. O sabor é bem macio e equilibrado. Achei um excelente vinho. — 7 days ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

Catena Mendoza Malbec 2017

An iconic Argentine wine; probably the most well-known Malbec for that matter. Big producer, a great one at that, who’s focused on quality. There’s oak, blueberry, plum and leather. You get a slight silkiness with good tanning structure, somewhat refined. Outstanding value, one of the best under twenty dollar wines I’ve had. — a month ago

Hangs around for a bit. Lots and lots of cherry but baking spices also kick in. Digging this wine. — 7 days ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

D.V. Catena Historico Mendoza Red Blend 2017

72% Malbec, 21% Bonarda, 7% Petit Verdot

Stone fruit tree. Wide range of plum and black cherry notes, stones, med+ acidity, dark coffee note, flavor profile is in the red-violet spectrum. Smooth medium body with fine tannin. Tight with slightly elevated fume. Will age gracefully. Would like to see it in 3-5 years.
