Kaefferkopf Alsace Grand Cru White Blend 2012

Vintage 2012 / orange gold colour, like the light in a Rembrandt painting. A smell of passionfruit, ananas, light vanilla. Assemblage of Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Muscat. 24 months on old foudres, bio naturelle wine without sulfite. A taste with butterscotch, a bit a fat wine in the positive meaning: a la, a painting of a beautiful woman like Rubens painted them. Yes, I am happy 🙃, although without covid19 this would be a day I would have been in Alsace for a studytrip 😢 / Paired with a Asian dish with shrimps and squid in oystersauce. — a year ago

Grand Cru d'Alsace Riesling 2014

Hazy and almost color of wet hay, this did not present as a very attractive wine. But looks, as we all know, can often be deceiving. In fact, this was a gift for the senses! On the nose, I detected the presence of brettanomyces but it was kept well in check. The real story was the bruised apple, Bosc pear, lemon citrus, decaying flowers, wet stone, and spices. I didn’t want to stop smelling my glass! On the palate, slightly over ripened Pome fruits, lemons, earth and spices. Super dry. High acid. Long, long finish. What a wine! This was a killer pairing with scallops & white fish ceviche accompanied with roasted Brussels sprouts & crispy leeks. Drinking at or near peak but should last for years. — 8 months ago

Rangen de Thann Harmonie 'R' Grand Cru 2012

Like all previous bottles drunk in US, the wine is reductive to start and freshens up in the glass. However, US bottles seem more advanced than bottle enjoyed a year ago in Ammerschwihr. Still a delicious bottle throughout a meal. — 10 months ago
