Irony

Bow and Arrow

Willamette Valley Gamay 2020

As others have mentioned, very close to a good Beaujolais. A bit more irony and meaty than fruit forward but tart cranberry certainly there. Herbs too. — a year ago

Domaine Le Roc

La Folle Noire d'Ambat Fronton Negrette 2018

There is an irony thing in the nose along with violet and rose petals and cherry and a bit of black pepper. This is the nose I fell in love with 10 years ago. The palate is very well designed with a strong acid backbone, a very nice round and radiating fruit, a bit of a sweet touch, some nice oily, scratchy tannins which kick things up for a rather long finish with that fruit, pepper and a long lasting floral aftertaste. So great. This is 7 Euro when you buy it from the winery directly and it's 15 kilometers from where I am right now 😍 — 4 years ago

Majella

Coonawarra Shiraz 1991

First vintage bottled by Majella says that back label. Great flavor and depth.
Earthy, irony, meaty, tobacco leaves, black pepper, potpourri and coriander.
Smooth, but not long.
12.5%
Again a nice 1991 from a producer that had not expectations at that time.

Domaine Le Roc

Cuvée Don Quichotte Fronton 2015

Forgotten bottle at my in laws. What a good surprise! Didn't know I had left it there 🤷🏻‍♂️.
This is again a very biaised review as this comes from a vineyard located 10 miles away from where I grew up. A blend of negrette and syrah.
There is a strong violet, blackberry, irony, pepper nose. Very inviting. The palate is very much defined by its acid backbone and its vibrant blackberry and cherry note. There is a huge tannins wall in the middle here, drying up everything in its wake but making way to a fruity, peppery finish with a fruity twist. Huge wine for less than 10 euros

Tamaral

Roble Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2018

Black pepper, an irony thing, fresh blackberries, a touch of vanilla. This is very good. The palate is well crafted : there is a great acid drive and there is matter on the side, a nice thickness and some grip, a beautiful blackberry fruit all along, some tannins kick things up in the middle. Theid palate is spherical and there is sweetness to it but then the finish starts and it's very dry, and a bit of salt and bitterness pop up in the rear. That's a great young tempranillo. I'd say one of the best I've had recently! — 4 years ago

Viña Progreso

Viognier 2019

This wine is electric! From the first waft on the nose to the splash on the palate, this wine is one of those I like to call “shiny.” It makes the insides of your nostrils tingle, the acid glands in the soft spots in the cheeks of your mouth sing, and the tips of your ears dance. It feels and smells irony like wet copper pennies and the texture is sheer as fine crystal. Bright fresh lemons yet some butterscotch warmth detected on the nose. High citric acid lights up the mouth with liquid lightening. Open for summer in your glass! — 5 years ago

Tolpuddle Vineyard

Tasmania Chardonnay 2014

Having a bit of a Tolpuddle time......have had worse weekends.....! If I have miscued on the irony these are very good wines! Pale Lemon in colour. Nutty almond and grapefruit notes with white citrus flowers with some funk - lees stirring? Light to medium weight palate with medium acid. Could go a couple more years if desired. This is a great example of cool climate Tasmanian Chardonnay. More Chablis than Meursault in style. The following day a little more tart. Tasted again 46 weeks later in Toowoomba on 21st January 2022 with consistent notes. Leesy funk. Citrus: Orange and Lime. Excellent. I will have the last one in at least a year’s time. — 4 years ago

Antica Terra

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2010

Andrew Holod
9.4

Vibrant, limpid, ruby. Initial nose of cranberry, bitter raspberry pip, irony mineral tones, tea roses. With air gains a pomegranate and slight beety note as well as some petrichor. Energetic palate with lively acidity. A good foil to salmon cakes with homemade tarragon mayo and Yukon golds persillade. — 4 years ago
