1st Jan 2023. Very unusual wine. 15% abv, but quite light. Complex. Energetic.
Domaine de Vaccelli is located in Cognocoli-Monticchi , Corsica . The family estate was purchased in the 1960s by the Courrèges family, after Algeria's independence. Its owner, Gérard Courrèges (son of Alain Courrèges) has been producing wines under the AOC Ajaccio, Vin de Pays de l'Île de Beauté but also Vin de France wines since the 1970s. Today, the vineyard covers 27 hectares planted with many varieties including many of the indigenous varieties of Corsica. The vineyard is run in certified organic farming .
The cuvée Sirocco Rouge is a blend of two indigenous varieties: Sciaccarellu and Elegànte . The wine is aged for 12 months in concrete eggs for 1/3, and the rest in demi-muids , partly new. Sirocco has a cellar potential of 8 to 10 years.
In mouth, it is a silky wine, with finesse and a nice length. There are also floral notes, black fruits and sweet spices aromas.

This Grenache and Carigan blend is typical of what you find in Spain, but now try one from the French island of Corsica! These grapes will act differently between slate and sand. — 4 years ago
True elegance from Ajaccio, Corse. Sciaccarellu is not so far from Pinot noir in this case. Lovely — 7 years ago
