Château La Salle De Poujeaux

Château Poujeaux

Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

Medium dark rubi robe, does not look like a 40 year old wine. Nose of top soil, cedar wood, spices and a hint of flowers. Very good length and with polished tannins, medium bodied, great acidity. The wine is fantastic now but no rush. Great stuff. — 12 days ago

Château Branas Grand-Poujeaux

Marpaout Merlot 2022

Marpaout 2022. First vintage of a 100 % Merlot of Château Branas Grand Poujeaux. An absolutely spectacular wine from a single plot. Aged in 100% new oak and additionally in amphora. Incredible complexity, wonderful elegance, and phenomenal length. The high alcohol (15%) goes totally unnoticed. Retail price 1500 euro. Only 900 bottles produced. — 8 months ago

La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux

Moulis en Médoc Merlot Blend 1999

I had the 1998 vintage of this dusty old Bordeaux about 5 months ago and it was underwhelming. Maybe an off bottle. But THIS 99 is pretty great. Fresh mixed berries (blueberry) on the nose, and very elegant fruit + tame soft tannins give a really nice mouthfeel with an extraordinarily long finish. Dried herbes de Provence and hay for days. I’m having one glass tonight and will check back in tomorrow after more air. Not an expensive bottle, but age served it well.

Follow up: Really singing on day 2. Got even better with another hour+ in the glass. But I’d say it’s getting slightly past its prime and best to drink now :) Party like it’s 1999.

Moulis en Médoc Merlot Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Smoky nose at first, developing well with air. More power and depth compared to the floral and fresh Mauvesin Barton tasted alongside. — 8 months ago

La Cave du Vin Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle

Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle Prié Blanc

In addition to its unique bottle shape and colorful, eye catching label, the 2023 Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle, is
also known for being produced at Europe’s highest vineyard: the Valle d’Aosta region in the upper northwest of Italy, on the borders of France and Switzerland, just a chip shot from the Summit of world-famous Mont Blanc.

The clear, light straw appearance is followed by persistent lemon/lime/floral aromatics and flavors. It is sourced from pre phylloxera rootstock of the indigenous Prié Blanc grape.

It is well balanced and structured with ample fruit and acidity; Light bodied, but somewhat fleshy, with a lingering touch of skin contact (oak?) at the long mouth coating finish. A most unique wine from a singular site. Worth a try if you can find it.

Château Poujeaux

La Salle Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend

2017 vintage. Dark red with orange rim. Very inviting nose with cherries., blueberries, flowers and nutmeg. Good concentration, impeccable balance, smooth tannins, and a certain complexity and very good length. This is delicious, and ready to drink, and a reminder how underrated this vintage can be. These are wonderful times for Bordeaux lovers, as the second wines have never been better. And it's hard to find a more sexy wine than this very modestly priced Moulis. Terrific value. Highly recommended. Abv. 13,5%. — 2 months ago

Ermes Pavese

Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle Prié Blanc

Revisiting an old friend. From one of Europe’s highest vineyards. Pure, clean citrus fruit hits you right away like a freshly melted alpine stream in spring. As the bottle warms up, unexpected tropical notes emerge - coconut and pineapple (aka nuances of piña colada). — 8 months ago

Les Eclats Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. This estate was bought in 2002 by Belgian Justin Onclin and he turned Branas Grand Poujeaux into the finest wine of the Moulis appellation in my humble opinion. Eclats is the second wine and it is a very attractive medium-bodied Moulis that delivers amazing value for money. Perfect to drink now, but no signs of fatigue. Abv. 13,5%. — 4 years ago
