Cahors Malbec 2021

One of the bottles we brought back from our stay in the Lot region. Opened 1 hour and 30 minutes before serving. Served over a charcoal grilled super ribeye piece. Great pairing!
Very different take on cahors than the ones we tasted over there. Oak, chocolate, cassis, blackberry, cherry, a menthol thing too. Very inviting and complex. The palate shows a very long acid drive, some nice matter, a soft mouthfeel, some cherry, chocolatey and blackberry notes, some typical grainy, dusty tannins, and a long, everlasting finish with that dusty layer, some cherry, an oaky note reminiscent of the nose and a nice, delicate, savoury touch in the rear, with a very nice pinch of umami to make it great. Less extracted than expected (and than Le cèdre cuvée I had a few years ago), an elegant, modern Cahors. Great stuff!

Are they moving away from the need for wines to age, Daniel?

This one particular cuvée could probably benefit from aging a bit, but a decent amount of air made it very approachable. Of course we had it with charcoal-grilled beef which definitely helped taming down tannins.

This was the most expensive in the Malbec flight from the spiritual home of Malbec- Cahors in south west France. Superseded by the Argentinians on the night. This was Chateau du Cedre. — 8 years ago

Le Cèdre Malbec Vintage 2015

I am not a sweet wine person. This one was perfect. It hit the spot after my meal when i crave something sweet. I’ll be doing dessert wines more often.

K. Starr, dinner buddy rated wine. I agree ;)

Le Cèdre Cahors Malbec 2004

Ahhhh Cahors. A lot going on here. Dark fruit, spice and meat with a little wild blueberry and chocolate. Elegant- though tannins still evident and a touch of brett adds a layer of authenticity. SUBSTANTIAL. Begging for some beef. Ain't nothin' wrong with aged Malbec from Southern France. — 8 years ago

Light ruby dress. Burgundy nose between sour red fruits, toasted aging, and tertiary notes of evolution. Half-corse mouth, mineral and in accordance with the nose, red fruits, spices, truffle, undergrowth, cedar, smoked, blond tobacco. The elegance of mastered classicism.

— 8 years ago
