Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Other night. Bold. 2010 still needed air and had plenty of time left for the cellar. — 8 days ago

Pause Canon Gamay Syrah

Glou glou but also polished. Not rough around the edges. Just a nice, fruit forward, easy drinking quaff. — a month ago

Clos la Gaffelière

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016: 85% merlot, 15% Cabernet franc. It’s good, but just on the edge of tasting really sweet and cheap. I wouldn’t pay over $18. Quite overpriced at $40 total wine. — 2 months ago

Château Moulin Haut-Laroque

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Black berry, charcoal, smoke, ink, bell pepper. A workin’ man’s bordeaux. You need to give this enough air. Popped and poured four days ago, thought it was pretty tight and backwards. So, I put the cork back in and stuck it in the fridge. Four days later, this wine really sings. — 16 days ago

Comtes de Neipperg Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Lovely wine that still has a bold tannic structure after a two hour decant. I suspect this wine will have have even better presentation in several years, even though it was fully enjoyable tonight. — a month ago

Château Villars

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Gorgeous, pristine - downright youthful w/gobs of black fruit (cherry, plum, blackberry & prune). Also sporting minerals, fig, clay, loam, soil & spice. Seamless integrated tannins & great persistence on finish. You can find great value in Fronsac — 2 months ago

Château La Vieille Cure

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

So impressed by the quality here. These are hidden gems to my palate that really shine with some age. This shows cigar tobacco, wet leaves, cocoa and plenty of tertiary complexity while retaining freshness with vibrant black fruit, acid and mellow tannins. Thankfully the critics never seem to pick up on this (though JR nailed it with a 17/20), and it unbelievably still retails for around $30. This is in its prime and I expect will drink well for another 10 years at least. — 20 days ago
