Deep, deep garnet with light purple flecks. A classic dusty Napa nose consisting of ripe blackberries, cherries, and menthol. Dusty herbs and warm spices. A touch of smoke and stewed plums. Highly expressive.
73/16/7/4 CS/ME/PV/MB from selected premium vineyards from Rutherford, Atlas Peak, and Carneros. Honestly, what else do you need to know? We all know how Cain gets down at this point. Nothing but beautifully crafted wines. Ripe and excessively smooth, there’s enough complexity here to keep you pondering the absurdities of life for hours. Full bodied and insanely graceful, there’s nothing here not to love.
Smooth and elegant entry with plums and smoked tobacco up front. So much juicy red fruit and vanilla. Herbs are plentiful along with spice. Long sumptuous finish. Drinking nicely now but still has miles to go. Really beautiful stuff. — 2 days ago
Leather and earth. Lighter and easy to drink. Decent for the price and curious to see how the other vintages compare. — a month ago
Oh the calamity.....leftover Waygu steak from last night's zoom Cain tasting...had to pop something worthy to go with it!
1.5 hour decant(decent chunky sediment). A majestic inky purplish garnet color. On the nose: a surprisingly subtle nose of dark cherry, spearmint, little blueberry, vanilla oak, graphite, and cedar. Taste: creamy, juicy, full body wine with blackberry, pencil lead, leather, cassis, and a long spiced dark chocolate finish. YUM!!! Drinks well with the decant and should keep going for many years. — 2 months ago
Always a good staple. Definitely drinks younger and could sit more. A bit rough but opened and was smooth. deep dark fruit. — 8 hours ago
Consistently great! Interesting to taste so close to the other vintages. Definitely a bit younger but still aged nicely. — 20 days ago
Dark fruit, bit of cigar box, some tannins, well balanced not over the top. Nice, — 2 months ago
Pretty good.... not my favorite, but a good choice. — 5 months ago
Excellent. Very drinkable with lots of deep flavor. Could probably age more but drinks wonderfully. Great value and would get again. — 13 days ago
Great as always. Consistently aged well with deep fruit and balance. Earthy and dry but not too dry. — 20 days ago
Cain Five and Waygu strip steak(from Snake River Farms) zoom tasting with Chris Howell(owner of Cain) and Chef Hiro Sone (owner/chef of the former Terra in St. Helena). 2008 vintage and 2013 vintage.
Prior notes apply for the 2008 vintage.
2013 vintage: 1 hour decant (some cloudy sediment). A dark garnet color with a little bricking. On the nose: certain vintages of Cain embrace the Brett on the property, and this is one of em. Some funky barnyard (luv it), plum, pine, tobacco, smoked meat, forest floor, orange peel. Taste: smooth medium plus body wine with plum, pine, currant, coffee, and a bitter chocolate dry medium plus finish. Some tannins still kicking wanting a few more years in the bottle. — 2 months ago
