1996 vintage. Decanted and tasted after two hours. Decent fill and not throwing as much sediment as expected. Cork in great shape and only bottom fourth saturated. Expressive nose of extreme, maritime cedar influence and graphite/lead pencil. Plenty of color with a very thin meniscus. Have never been the biggest Mouton fan (least fave of the First Growths) but this is in the zone/at the top of the bell curve/rollin rollin rollin rollin now and for the foreseeable decade+ without drop-off. Decidedly not improving, but on the hell yes plateau for 12-15 years. Nose substantially translates into the finish, adding sandalwood and that massive, muscular and intimidating dark, plummy thrust. Professional opinion suspects this would be tasting better in another 2 hours. Don't sell your biggies short (all too frequent mistake). They gotta stretch them legs. 7.7.23. — 5 months ago
Always reliably delicious!! Ready to pop and pour with its soft, velveteen tannins and robust, ripe black fruit notes such as cassis, blackberry, black cherry, also licorice, green bell pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, cedar, pencil shavings, clove, tobacco, and leather. — 8 months ago
Decant and pour. A wondrous garnet color with bricking. On the nose: captivating nose of dark plum, wet forest floor, herbaceous, spice, some funky barnyard. Taste: dark plum, cedar, earth, pencil lead, and a spiced green bell pepper/tobacco medium plus finish with a moderately tight tannic kick....drinks like a younger Bordeaux. — 3 months ago
Bright, tart and juicy with a nice finish. Not too jammy, with hints of sour cherry and a nice finish. I’m gonna go back to Costco and load up on this gem. — 6 months ago
1985 vintage. Arguably, my fave wine but first time ever tasting this vintage. It didn’t suck. Decanted. Throwing appropriate sed. Light-medium body. Mixed elderly funk nose with the trademarked cocoa powder and blueberry early on after an hour decant. Bright cherry and ripe plum rolling after two hours decanted. More stuffing than expected. Really nice specimen. Definitely not getting any better but at the top of the bell curve for another 2-3 years. Window is closing. Run, don't walk. 5.11.23. — 7 months ago
Inky color. Dark fruit, spice and acidity. Complexity in progression of flavors throughout. — 3 months ago

See previous notes here on Delectable. Mid to pale ruby in colour. Pale yet powerful. Great aromatics of pansies, rose petals and violets also stalkiness. As Barb said the aromas of a beautiful garden. After a while an Animale, feral note not unlike some Burgundies we’ve had. Medium bodied palate - dried red fruits with a sweet yet savoury twist. A very polished new World Pinot by any measure. Tasters often identify with Central Otago and Martinborough for quality NZ Pinot Noir. Don’t forget about Canterbury in the South Island not far from the city of Christchurch. Luckily I have 2 left. Bob Campbell MW says drink through to 2025. — 2 months ago
