Tonight I have opened the 2012 Zlatan Plavac Mali from the Zlatan Plenković Winery, Šibenik North Dalmatia Wine Region Croatia.

On the nose is dark fruit, blackberry, black cherry, floral notes, a nice spice end, black pepper and dark rich soil.

On the palate the dark fruit continues with blackberry, black cherry, herbs, spice, black pepper, black currant, rich soil and a saltiness on the finish.

This wine is full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + gripping mouth coating tannins that leads to a long enjoyable finish. What a nice surprise! I am going to have to check out more of these Croatian wines. This is still an young wine and has many more years to truly show itself. Have a great weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

My first Croatian wine. Nice. Plavac Mali grape. Good structure, complex layers of fruit.

Pleasantly surprised - first time trying Plavac Mali wine. It is juicy, expressive berry notes. Soft enough to sip on its own yet complex enough to pair with a honey mushroom flatbread

Heavier in body than our normal cup of tea. However very tasty. Darker fruits and very structured. Would be great with a gamey meat course (lamb-wild duck)

Black raspberries, meat, leather, and petrol on the nose. Dry wine with medium tannins. It opened up a bit, but not super impressed.

Dry and zinny, with natural yeast pushing through. Medium bodied with a mineral finish.
