Viñedos del Contino (CVNE)
Contino Rioja Blanco Grenache Blanc Viura
We love this. Hits the palate like a wave of sunny, steely fruit. Tart, resonant, floral and super concentrated with beautifully minerals and expert use of oak. Exquisite wood spice, saltiness and length; the Viura and Garnacha Blanca are perfection in this style. Not austere at all but no question this will reward decades of cellaring. This would be a great value at twice the price.

Dec 18th, 2021Well integrated oak, creamy texture and good length. I feel the white grenache touch.

Nov 25th, 2016Tough year as two years of drought, only 4,000 bottles produced.)
Creamy peach, pear fruit but with lovely touches of marzipan, toasted almond flakes and lime cheese cake, jasmine, lemon oil and also something that reminds me of top quality cold press olive oil.
In the mouth there is an oily richness with juicy ripe peach and persimmon but with plenty of bite to, apple skin length, good acidity despite pretty high alc. (13.5) this has a richness but also great freshness and is a wine that I personally love!

Slightly oxidative. Banana, wildflower, comice pears. Very, very tasty.

Nov 14th, 2022Contino gran reserva - 2016- single vineyard near the Ebro River. Dark ruby. Some translucency. On the nose, forest floor, dark berries, minerals. On the palate, red fruits, vanilla, and strong acidity still.

Nov 12th, 2022Fantastic and clean. Riesling like in character with light minerals and beautiful notes of chalk and slate.

Jul 10th, 2021Rich golden in colour, slightly oxidative und style with overripe lemons, quince, wild flowers and a healthy dose of marcipan.
On the palate this is broad but not plush, with the lemony acidity cutting through the layers of ripe & baked (& pickled?) lemons, marcipan, some spice, a (inoffensive) touch of caramel. Very nice texture and a uplifting, salty mineral finish, makes the 14% integrate seamlessly.
A very nice wine, proving that youth & freshness in whites ain’t all.
