Intruiging on the nose , much more full bodied and powerful in the mouth. Dark ruby colour. Punchy but good balance with alcohol at 14% and flavours of plum and blackcurrant. Elevated the accompanied dish of lamb with apricots and roast veg.

Plum and Christmas cake upon sniffing, earthy dark berries on the palate, aromatic, extended finish. Never disappoints.

Less “rounded” than Californian Cab Sauv (not a bad thing). Beauty!

Villa Cafaggio Cortaccio. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. A nice garnet colour in the glass. This 2008 is lovely. From the Panzano Estate, this wine was aged for 18 months in new French Oak. The result? A well balanced Tuscan Cabernet that delivers flavours of leather, tobacco, herbs and some earthiness. Well balanced acidity and tannins. Lovely wine.

Punching a mile above its weight, this Tuscan Cab blew me away. Light cedar and cherry nose on a Bordeaux-like entry. Perfectly dry, the fine spicy tannins take this to another level at age 15. Light oak, cherry blossom. Cassis and espresso bean. I blew through a half case a decade ago, leaving just this one, which has at least 3-4 years to go.
