Vietti
Tre Vigne Barbera d'Asti
Strikingly austere out of the gate and a paradox for the vintage and tradition of the house. A more robust style (perhaps not intended) for more modern palettes. Combo of red and black fruit, cedar, dried tobacco, tar and dried herbs with a heaviness of cherry liqueur. Shows its pedigree but not an illuminating example of the house and a tad befuddling for the vintage. Needs 3-4 years aging

Aug 18th, 2015Nice grip here. Acid and tannin are balanced nicely, lots of red and black fruit. This wine is alive and for the price it's a bargain.

Jun 2nd, 20152012 Vietti Barbera D'Asti Tre Vigne - Ripe and herbaceous aromatics showing moderate alcohol. Dry, medium acid, tannins and body. Flavors of ripe red and black cherries, bitter herbs, orange peel, earthy finish. You can feel the heat of the vintage with this wine and it needs time to breathe so don't rush it. Decant for an hour for softer texture and complexity. Solid Barbera with the perfect amount of funk for the $$.

May 28th, 2015The cheapest wines from great producers are usually almost as enjoyable as the rest of the lineup and this is no exception.
