Enjoyed this quite a bit. It appears that the new generation of Barolo Winemakers are creating softer, less extracted Barolo’s with less new wood.
Old style’s are; big, bold, well extracted and see lots of time in new oak. Examples that need 10 plus years in bottle to calm and enjoy.
Generally, many of today’s younger consumers of wine lack the interest of collecting and long cellaring wine.
Half of the examples poured this night & recent new Barolo vintages demonstrate a generation of Winemakers understanding the new consumer wine market.

Not made in ‘14, Ruby with aromas of dark fruit, spice & leather notes. On the palate flavors of ripe black fruit flesh with blackberry preserves and spice notes. Nice tannic structure with fruit and oak finish long ending good balance with tobacco and earthy mineral tones. Very nice. Tasting Sample.

Now largely tertiary of course, dried leaves and dates. Still plenty of structure. Don't see many of these around!

Jun 15th, 2018Classic, focused and refined, and while still youthful, the quality of tannins are great. Yes, there’s a lot of ‘em, but all positive, as its developing, fading floral fruit character is just right.
