Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin
Cave Privée Vintage Brut Champagne Blend
Tonight I learned there is a lot more to that yellow label. What a night with Veuve Clicquot’s winemaker Pierre Casenave. Thanks Clare for making it happen!

Nov 9th, 2019This is great stuff. Soft honey. A bit of brioche. Gentle floral notes then lovely resolved lemon acidity and a supple, soft length. A really gorgeous minerality. A really complete, perfectly mature, and delicious wine. From mag

Jan 13th, 2018This was an eye-opener, just the right mix of development and underlying strength. More please!

Dec 10th, 2017Deep and complex. Lots of bread. And I’m not talking the usual toasted bread white / brioche. More like rye! Salty liquorice! Oyster shells. Dried fruit. And still very fresh with great acidity that conpliments everything very well. Let it breathe for a while and the dried fruit becomes more dominant along with hints of saffron.

Dec 8th, 20171989 vintage in magnum at Mark's Club Veuve Clicquot dinner. Veuve Cliquot 1989 Blanc Cave Privee - Pale straw colour. Healthy stream of small bubbles. Delightful nose of candied apples together with honey suckle, cereal and a touch of coffee. Slightest whiff of oxidation on the nose but this adds to the occasion in this case as it complements the complexity of the wine. Very crisp on the pallet with slight mineral undertones. Amazing energy for a wine of this age - there is real tension still present. Good lingering finish which rounds out the whole experience. Not as bombastic as the 1990 rose but lovely length nonetheless. This magnum was disgorged in 2010. 94/100. Drink now to 2030.

May 16th, 20151989 vintage in magnum. Disgorged in 2010. 20 years on the years. Pinot dominated - 67%. Medium gold. Sherries and slightly oxidised on the nose. Highly concentrated. Nutty and caramelised. Ringer for Bollinger. Stone fruit profile. Good texture. Very rich. Decent acidity. I like the style but many wouldn't. Finish is reasonably long, but it's on the downhill slope. Drink now.
