Valdicava
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Amazing brunello...love this producer...dried red fruit/black fruits, savory, leather and cigar box. Came out of the gate with some VA and barnyard funk which made it fun as the structural elements all there..it blew away in time but overall just perfect. Paired with grandmas pizza!

Intense wine with ash, dark fruits and dry finish. Needs serious decant or cellar time.

Transparent ruby with brick red hue. Nose has a bouquet of flowers and red fruit with pasture earth and tobacco spice. Palate is fresh and balanced with good structure and integrated tannins. Finish is long and dry.

Massive, a little underwhelmed by being overwhelmed.

May 12th, 2016This 2006 still needed decanting to open up. The tannins are silky and the fruit jumps out on the palate. It brought back memories of how the best wines of Saint-Emilion present themselves in tannic structure and darkness of in color. But 100% Sangiovese on the nose. Old world at it's finest.

Particularly earthy and elegant, the 2006 Valdicava Brunello displays a dark primary fruit appearance, but in its nineteenth year, it has clearly evolved from a dense, fruit bomb into a more refined pour with gentle and teasing tertiary aromas and flavors.
It is soft, flavorful, medium bodied, still well structured with light tannins and brisk acidity, and reveals interesting and savory notes of baking spices, dried fruits, nuts and herbal underbrush. The finish is long and satisfying. Aficionados of well aged wines, this is for you!

It’s fine/good. Don’t love it. Doesn’t really stand out.
