Ty Caton
Caton Vineyard TyTanium Moon Mountain District Red Blend
Sonoma County, California, USA

Inky in color with short purplish rim.
Strong nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, toast, light vanilla, tobacco, licorice, mediterranean spices, chocolates, light earth, herbs and black pepper.
Full bodied and soft with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruit forward on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, black cherries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, spices, coffee, light earth, herbs, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, black tea and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a delicious red blend from Sonoma County. Bold and big, rich and fruit forward. Extracted and very complex, tangy and spicy.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours in the decanter. Already very approachable, and got really dry on the palate, once it opened up.
Nicely balanced with a big mouthfeel. Feels like a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years, and has good potential to become a 94+ point wine.
A great sipping wine that paired nicely with my burger.
A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Petite Sirah, 11% Malbec and 5% Syrah. Aged for 18 months in (60% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of less than 6,000 bottles.
14.8% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$80.

Fourth of the blind reds for this quarter's S&E Wine Club. Theme was Chardonnays for white wine and red wines you can purchase at grocery stores. The fourth and fifth red were higher end and did not stick to the theme.
Super dark purplish ruby red. Plush nose to start with cinnamon, cloves, blackberries and a touch of other dark fruits. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium bodied. Lots of acidity. A touch jammy on the palate with black fruits, spices, graphite and a bit stoney. Dry and medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2025.

Rich and hearty, this intense blend definitely shows off its petite sirah but avoids being a monolithic wine by the addition of cab sauv malbec syrah petit verdot and merlot.

Oct 27th, 2018Nice red Sonoma blend with the steaks. More cab, but I get a lot of the Syrah in the blend.

Charming dark purple note in color. The flow gives you an impression of thickness in content. Nose of cherry Jamie, ripe berries, oak sweetness, hickory, and a hint of anise. Taste of zest from tangy fruit, hint of dark fruit like cherry, powerful tannins yet a bit too watery, a bit peppery, and sulfate rustic metallic note. Decide to let her breathe more. After breathing, nose of leather surfaces. On the taste side, some sweet dark fruit do surface, like cherry jam and ripe plum, but the wine is still dominated by zesty and metallic note. Aftertaste is a summary of what is in the taste and nose, with stronger peppery note plus black tea. Considering the sale price of the wine, is is quite disappointing.
