Ending the year on a high note with a Wednesday Wine Committee appearance. As always, wines are tasted blind. This week, there was 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 2 reds and 1 dessert.

Never heard of this before and the bottle shape was funky. Bubbles were pretty small, yeastiness to it on the nose and crisp Granny Smith apple on the palate. I guessed NV French champagne. ✔️

Nice brut; it has a grapefruit like quality that is great for a crowd. Depth in flavor but not much of the champagne characteristics such as lees showing. Light in feel and color, and ample fizz and zippy acid.

Great N.V. champagne! Light toast on the nose, green apple and pear, and a strong overtone of red grapefruit, and plentiful refined bubbles. Very explosive flavor in the mouth and a very crisp finish. Great paired with cheeses and for a great toast!

Ooh. Rubber bands, hoarse shit and happiness. A good combo.

So here’s how we celebrated International #ChampagneDay yesterday! We bought this Champagne Tsarine Cuvée Premium for $50 from Dan Murphy’s.

It is from the champagne house Chanoine Frères which is the one of the oldest champagne houses. It was founded in Reims in 1730! Today it is led by one of the first, and few, female winemakers in Champagne, Isabelle Tellier.

The design of the bottle is Russian inspired and dates back to when the Chanoine brothers travelled to the Russian Imperial courts to try to sell their wines – and after many months, Elisabeth the First, Tsarine of Russia, tasted and bought the first bottles

We enjoyed it with cured meat as an aperitif and it didn’t go down too bad at all + was friendly on the bank account.

In the glass it has a golden sheen to it. On the nose it made me think of freshly cut apples and pears with some crackers on the side and a sprinkling of white pepper. In the mouth it has plentiful effervescence and juicy orchard fruit flavours with refreshing citrus notes. Very dry style of champagne 🍾

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Apples and roses in the nose, grapefruit and red cherries in the palate. Good alone or with food

Perfect splurge for 40 laps around the sun. Very dry, just suited to my pallet.
