Trimbach
Cuvée Frédéric Emile Alsace Riesling
What a treat, and at €70 (!!!) on a wine list for the '07, an absolute steal! Hugely petrol on the nose, with some bruised apple and herbs. On the palate, this is intense and direct, showcasing green apple, fennel and oyster shell with a touch of marmalade. The acid is insane - ripping, bracing and cleansing giving a sense of salty minerality, focus and drive. Only slightly aldehydic, still youthful and for my taste not yet at peak. Food wise, this was too searing for trout tartare but worked incredibly well with the sweet/savory sanguinity of boudin noir. Loved this, and like always I'm left questioning why I don't drink more Alsace.
