Thierry et Pascale Matrot
Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru Chardonnay
Wine was too cold to begin with but after a while there were White Florals along with River gravel, ripe citrus and honeysuckle. More mineral and less stone fruit influenced than Australian Chardonnay. Also 2014 was a great vintage for White Burgundy. Excellent and delicious.

Apr 2nd, 2023Initial impressions of green apple, citrus, wet stone and mineral. Same on the palate. Still quite restrained from this excellent white burgundy vintage of 8 years ago. Quite lean for a Premier Cru Meursault and leaner than most good Australian Chardonnays The oak is clearly dialled back to match the power of the fruit in this cooler vintage. A touch of salinity at the finish.

Aug 14th, 2022Good, lean mainly.
Very almondy, nearly like a north eastern Italian white

Aromas of crisp stone fruits with citrus notes, complex. On the palate apple and citrus flavors, lively with honey oak and spice. Well balanced, lingering finish ending with mineral tones. Nice!

Jan 23rd, 2019Really interesting Chardonnay. Complex flinty nose with white chalk, lemon dust and warm caramel. Mineral driven palate with modest caramel apple and Meyer lemon notes. Dense mouthfeel. Really nice. Not too oaky or fruity. Even better in a couple of years.

Feb 11th, 2018This is an interesting Chardonnay. It is neither too fruity nor is it too oaky. Perhaps that is why I'm at a loss. Nothing is standing out. It is smooth with a pleasant finish, but for me, honestly unmemorable. I have had much better (and much worse) Meursault.
