You can take the girl out of New Zealand but you can’t take the NZ wine out of her glass 😜

This was a total comfort night in (well pretty much every night is like this these days - thanks COVID!). I made a Leek, Bacon and Winter Greens Risotto from the Dish Magazine and teamed it up with a bottle of The Ned by Marisco 2019 Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

The recipe called for 1/2 cup of white wine so naturally we had to finish the bottle off with dinner. And it was actually a banging match too! So yummy!

The wine is nearly lemongrass like in colour with vibrant passionfruit, gooseberry, white peach and kaffir line scents rising up from the glass. In the mouth it’s juicy and thirst-quenching. The acidity cut through the creamy risotto perfectly 👌

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Passion fruit, nettles, and green apples on the nose. It has an excellent crisp acidity with tons of fruit. Fantastic value.

Herbaceous, fresh cut grass, passion fruit and gooseberry nose. Passion fruit dominant and quality high acid flavour.
A great textural mouthfeel. Great value, an old favourite.

Picked this up on a whim at Total Wine. $12, worth the gamble. I think $12 is about what this is good for, so kind of hard to complain and compare. And therein lies the problem with reviews, do I rate this for its price and value? Do I rate it for comparison sake? Do I take the middle ground?

I’ll take the middle. It’s got some of the classic Marlborough SB flavors like honeydew and herbs. A touch of apple and grapefruit. It’s not so refreshing though, a bit too round and no finish. $12, so, yeah.
