Dark, deep, solid. This can was fantastic with artisan chocolates and Shane Gillis’ special.

Sipping Fine Wine

Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, with sweet spicy notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with cacao, dusty oak, vanilla and leather. Well balanced with acidity, fine soft tannins, long finish ending with oak and spice. Good now and short term aging benefit! Nice value!

Half bottle on sale bargain as this Hess hints at the much more expensive wines in adjacent vineyards. I ran back to get more but they were gone and cried a river.

Here is a great Napa Cabernet for my Friday's Cabernet fix.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, eucalyptus, chocolates, spices, pencil lead, black pepper, leather, earth and metals.

Full bodied and rich, with medium acidity and nice legs

Dry on the palate and fruity, with blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, tobacco, pencil lead, peppercorn, leather, smoke, chocolates and mocha.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a great Cabernet from Napa Valley. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food.
Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Needs an hour to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle and good for parties.

Drinking nicely now and will be good in the next few years.

I paired it with beef tenterloin.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Time for my Friday's Cabernet fix.
This week it's a nice one from Napa Valley.

Dark ruby in color with wide purplish rim.

Nose of cherries, blueberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke, chocolates and mocha.

Medium to full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, currants, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, chocolates, mocha, peppercorn, leather and smoke.

Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.

This Napa Cabernet is very enjoyable. Balanced with nice complexity. Drinking nicely now, but will be better in a year or two.

This teeth staining red wine, is enjoyable by itself or with food like BBQ Meats.

Needs an hour or so, to open up properly.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Dark chocolate, tobacco, fig, and plum. Medium tannins and acidity. Nothing too complex. Good wine for dark meat.

A lovely Californian CS, with an expressive rich nose, the wine is full of figs, chocolate, prune, black currents and licorice, full body with mild tannins and great acidity. Surprisingly ready to drink balanced and smooth. My score 87, drink to 2020 perhaps longer

This chased the Chappellet, which was was a tough act to follow, But this Hess went toe-to-toe. And while it fell a shade short, at $23 per, it’s a winner. It presents superbly, and if you close your eyes, it’s tough to discern the difference. The Chappellet is slightly more extracted and dense, but beyond that, honors even. This is a case purchase. I’m going back to the well!
