Tenute Dettori
Renosu Rosso Romangia Cannonau
Delicious, vibrant, complex and juicy. Dettori tends to show some bottle variation, this was a good one.

Jun 18th, 2018Deep ruby-red. Very fruity aromas and flavors of black cherry, strawberry nectar, sweet spices and peppery herbs. Suave and serious; smooth tannins provide backbone to the red and black fruit cocktail flavors. Finishes bright and chewy. A fun wine that strikes me as being a bit deeper and more serious than usual, not to mention stable (no hint of refermentation or of excess sugar). (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, March 2018)

Mar 9th, 2018On the wheel of Dettori roulette, this one came up aces. Juicy plums, cherries and blackberries, with just the lightest funky feral hint to keep things interesting. When they're good, they're good.

Oct 8th, 2015Eh. Thought this would be the ticket for tomatoes, seafood and caramelized fennel. Nope. More or less typical grenache nose with all the peppery violet black fruit, but then the palate's this sweet, fat, no acid blimp. Some spicy heat would tame that, maybe, but it'd take fairy gnarly puttanesca or something to do so. Some more cellar time probably wouldn't hurt either, as this is pretty primary right now. Other wines from the same producer have been good (thankfully, because I have a cellar full of their stuff), so I hope this one's just having an off night or my palate's hosed.

Feb 2nd, 2015Dark ruby. Rose petal, violets, vaguely brambly, but much less than Zin or other varieties. Off dry palate with ripe fruit and continued floral notes. Paired with a homemade puttanesca sauce with plenty of olives and anchovy.
