Vertical tasting 2006-2010 of Castelbuono Sagrantino di Montefalco. Quality increases in recent vintages. 2006 and 2007 are oaky and sharp. 2008 is round and refined, 2009 very expressive, softened but deep, lively palate.

Rich and Full Red. Mellow dark red and black fruit notes. Licorice and chocolate appear in the mid pallet. Time must have softened this wine, as it is mellow, elegant and rather smooth. Excellent example of this varietal.

Dried black fruit, cherries, ashes, some spicy nuts and vanilla with ethanol make room for a velvety texture. Medium body, ots of soft tannins and medium acidity. Very well balanced. Christmas 2008 I got introduced to Sagrantino and didn't forget...
