Blinded, I thought this was a Left Bank Bordeaux. I’m useless with Bordeaux blends. Felt Cab-dominated with the obvious pyrazine notes. Vintage-wise, I was going between 2015 and 2018, so not far off. Youth and ripeness were the clues. Wine-wise, not exactly what I like but I thought it was solid. Plummy fruit, herbs, wood, earth, and some underlying minerality.

Really pretty. Dark berries, fennel bulb, earth, dried herbs and good acid. Went great with lasagna.

Super Tuscan blend, merlot dominant. Blackberries, plums, cherries and licorice. Excellent length, elegant body and well rounded tannins. Great balance. Could age another 5 years, but was absolutely drinkable now!

Great drinking window about 10 years old. The usual and then the maturity kisses it with char and olives. Perfect with home Italian night of sautéed pasta (non tomato based… all the other good stuff… because sometimes the tomato steals too much show, even from the wine).

Early ripening Bordeaux Blend of 51% Merlot, 31% Cab Franc, 17% Cab Sauv & 1% Petit Verdot. Dark Ruby with aromas of rich berry fruits with notes of spice, herb and forest floor. On the palate flavors of ripe blackberry and cherry with cinnamon and mushroom. Soft fine tannins, rich mouthfeel well balanced with vivid acidity. Long finish ending with fruit, cedar and tobacco. Will benefit from some short term aging, Nice value!!

Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here's a great one from Tuscany.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Great nose of blueberries, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, wild flowers, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, vegetables, graphite, light alcohol, bell pepper and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cherries, oak, licorice, spices, coffee, pencil lead, cola, leather, smoke, vegetables, light bell pepper and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins (but not grippy any longer).

This Merlot based, Super Tuscan Red, is very enjoyable now as a 5 year old. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and show the beautiful nose.

Still young, but already drinking very nicely. Would be nice to try it again in 3 years.

A blend of 72% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a cheeses and crackers.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$20.

Mostly Merlot w/Cab Franc and Cab Sav. Plummy and light on its feet with earth notes and a hint of white pepper.
