Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here's a great one from Tuscany.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Great nose of blueberries, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, wild flowers, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, vegetables, graphite, light alcohol, bell pepper and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cherries, oak, licorice, spices, coffee, pencil lead, cola, leather, smoke, vegetables, light bell pepper and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins (but not grippy any longer).

This Merlot based, Super Tuscan Red, is very enjoyable now as a 5 year old. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and show the beautiful nose.

Still young, but already drinking very nicely. Would be nice to try it again in 3 years.

A blend of 72% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a cheeses and crackers.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$20.

Mostly Merlot w/Cab Franc and Cab Sav. Plummy and light on its feet with earth notes and a hint of white pepper.

This is a crazy good super Tuscan from the late just Jackson's Italian steak soft deep rich smooth Merlot cab company frock send your lazy and petites Virgo dark fruit and berry flavors with layer after layer elegance I found it listed online for 2499 at Walleys LA. Deep ruby red with a little bit of garnet on the edges. Layered nose with quite a bit of earthy characteristics such as forest floor, damp earth, a bit stinky with some gamey notes, mushrooms and a tad dusty. Well rounded with balanced acidity and medium tannins (6/10). Very dry throughout with dark cocoa, plums, dried cherries and herbs, pepper, and darker berries. Full bodied with a long finish. Very impressed with this $25.00 bottle. Drink till 2028. (92+)

Nose is straight Bordeaux with a hint of Tuscany barnyard. Best of both worlds.

Crazy extracted--almost black. Lots of heat on nose, cooked currant/black plum, sun dried tomato, scorched gravelly earth. Deeply concentrated black fruit core, burnt chocolate, tannins much like oversteeped black tea. Awkward & clunky.
