True to form. Pure #brunello #brunellodimontalcino #sangiovese from inner #tuscany medium Garnet color medium(+) intensity aromas of red fruits, red cherries, pomegranate, raspberry and dried red plums. Hints of herbal aromas (oregano, thyme and sage) with secondary aromas of oak (vainilla, cedar and toast) and tertiary aromas and flavors of dried red fruits. On the palate the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, firm ripe medium(#) tannins and high alcohol and a medium(+) body. The finish is medium(+). This is a 2015 and it can still develop favorably in the bottle. It has a balance of ripe red fruits, juicy medium(+) acidity and the maturation in oak gives it the elegance and the depth to continue to develop over time. It’s aromas and flavors are still full of juicy rich concentrated red fruits and the tertiary aromas and flavors so typical of Brunello make this wine a fine example.

Super solid. Dark red cherry color, ruby. Some damp earth and dry herbs. Tannins were just right. Flavors were pure and focused. Will revisit this again. Opened 9/12

Needs two hours of airtime in decanting. Beautiful structure. Great balance but critical to allow enough time to open.

First vino back from week away. Medium garnet color with initially reticent nose that opened up to berries and earthiness and a nice lively texture and good finish. Great with Evan’s home made pizza.

Let’s talk about ‘tertiary’...by that I mean aromas and flavors that develop during the bottle-aging process. 🙌🙌
With the name Brunello di Montalcino DOCG you can be certain this wine was made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, came from Tuscany, in Central Italy, 🇮🇹 and was aged for a minimum of 5 years prior to release, at least two of which were in oak vessels.
🧐🧐
The age on this wine shows in its aromas and flavors, which retain some evidence of fruit, but have started to trend towards the tertiary side of things. 🍷☺️
👁 The color is medium ruby with garnet rim variation.
👃 Indeed the nose has a medium(+) intensity of developing aromas. Aromas include baked cherry, strawberry, blackberry, also black licorice, anise, fennel, balsamic, nutmeg, clove, cedar, tobacco, earth, meat, and game.
👄 On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium(+) intensity of flavors consistent with the nose. The finish is medium(+).
Shout out to @sommnow @h_obf for helping us find this gem 💎 👏👏👏👏👏
La Togata, Brunello di Montalcino, Vintage 2009, ABV 14.5%.
