Wonderful! Almost aged Bordeaux like nose. Depth and balance.

The name of the estate comes from "Ca' Pazzo", shown on ancient maps. The estate covers an area of 190 hectares, 54 which are vineyards, 4 are olive groves, 87 which are wooded and 45 are to be planted with new vines. Vivid deep Ruby with a berry fruit bouquet and hints of smoke, aged for 2 years on oak. On the palate cherry & strawberry flavors, with leather, cacao and tar notes. Softening nicely, has lively acidity and approachable tannins, lingering ending with tobacco oak finish. Tasting Sample.

Grabbed another bottle from the cellar. Wow! Ruby red with aromas of red berry fruit and woody spice. On the palate flavors of sweet cherry, dark berry and plum, fine silky tannins, savory, well balanced with cacao and gentle pepper spice. Lingering finish ending with cedar oak and peppery spice notes. Caparzo makes great Brunello’s, at a great price, so grab one, you won’t be disappointed. The ‘11 is tasting great and still has room to run.

I am going to tell you the first time I was going to open this wine I was scared off from opening it. I wee told that Caparzo didn't make a good wine and I would be disappointed. Well I am here to tell you that that is not true with this Sangiovese. I am usually not a big Sangiovese fan and this wine has made me rethink that thought. At first impressions the nose is a bit muted. After a bit of vigorous swirling I am getting plum, black cherry with hints of licorice. This wine is supposed to be right in its drinking period, 2010-2020. At first sip I am pleasantly surprised at how smooth this is. Nice silky tanning, still very good acidity. The fruit is right there with red cherries and strawberry jam. All in all a very nicely balanced and finish.
