Las Beatas Tempranillo Blend

From 90 year old vines just outside of Haro, Telmo said this took 20 years to refine the 1.9 hectare vineyard practices before bottling a release. There are some young vines that don't go into the blend for this wine. 2011 was the inaugural vintage with 2012 the most recent.
Completely transparent to site with a firm core surrounded by an elegant and deeply complex flavor peripheral. For me this is a completely transcendant Rioja wine. The wine ages in oak barrique but you don't taste it, you feel it along with the terroir that weaves into the fine knit texture and taste its dazzling complexity. Virtually weightless this sails on to a finish which echoes finely with purity, length and persistence. Only 1,400 bottles and a gorgeous wine. If you love Spanish wine you owe it to yourself to try this. #beatas

Bafflingly elegant and intense at the same time, this texturally is like a great GC Chambolle or Vosne in texture. Satiny and silky, with persistent perfume like aromatics and layers of fruit, minerality and florals unfolding on the palate, I look forward to tasting this in another 7-10 years. It hits all the notes of a great wine in a way that seems like it was effortless. Telmo spent the better part of 2 decades from what I recall bringing this site back to life and tweaking this to get it right. .8 hectares of old vines (80 or 90 years) provide the core of this wine. #telmo #beatas #rioja

Déjà âgé de 12 ans cette cuvée confidentielle provenant d'une minuscule parcelle de 1,9 hectares de vieilles vignes. La robe est de beau rubis. Le nez est agréable et complexe, des prunes, du bois, des herbes et une touche médicinal. Il bouge dans le temps. La bouche est superbe, les tanins sont souples et assagit. Il offre de beaux fruits noirs et des prunes. La finale est longue, très longue. À plus de 200$ on doit s'attendre à ce genre de produit, par contre le prix est plus pour la rareté que la qualité intrinsèque.

This is a very small vineyard and one of the more intresseting wines from the new wave of Rioja Grand Crus. Old bush vines, 1,9 ha. Only 1,501 bottles were filled. You get the Tempranillo berries but apart from that this is quite unique. Not only for Rioja. Flowery nose. Pomegranate, cherries, licorice, incense, crushed rock. Herbs and mineral. More intellectual than hedonistic. But stil very enjoyable to drink.
