As Caborcas Single Vineyard Mencía
Medium Ruby with aromas of fresh red fruits and berries with delicate blossom notes and light spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and strawberry with a floral quality, wrapped in medium acidity. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with subtle fragrant character. Small production. Tasting Sample!

Feb 12th, 2020This is how I like my Spanish red wines. More on the elegant side, indeed with quite some fruit (red cherry, cranberry) which I love. Mixed with tons of Garrigue & earthy components. Good acidity on the palate, again red fruit mixed with herbs, good finish. A really nice showing, would love to see how the 2010 or 2013 performs in the direct context.

Sep 5th, 2016On point with my earlier note, this is reminiscent of a Syrah from the Northern Rhone but from a tiny old vine site in Valdeorras in northern Spain.

Feb 22nd, 2016Made from the Mencia grape from mostly ancient vines as old as 120 years old.
12-14 months in 2,000 liter foudre.
Microscopic production of only 2,000 bottles.
A Rhone look-a-like from the get go, the nose rose from the glass with persistent notes of meat, cracked pepper, forest floor, tar and some crushed violets. the palate is firm and deep, with good acidity and streaks of rock-like minerality.

Decant 30 or more minutes prior to consumption and you'll understand why some folks have been comparing Mencia to Burgundian Pinot Noir ( if done right) ;) ehemmm this one is done right.
