Satrapezo Saperavi

Vintage 2012 - brambles, lots of minerals, quite modest but with rondeur. Top of Georgië from the Saperavi grape, the wine got 5 months ripening in clay amphora's before ripening in woorden barrels.

At first glance this exhibits a lot of characteristics like cabernet. Medium to full bodied. Deep red to rose colored hues, with a fruit heavy nose of dark red fruits… but this is its own animal. Dig a little deeper on the nose and you get sharpie marker, much more floral than a cab, with none of the wood and notes of green pepper, a slight menthol freshness, and fresh cut grass beginning to peek forth. The tannins took a while to emerge, but when they did they felt like the hit all angles, never too much but just enough. The palate after some serious decanting has prominent notes of beef jerky, iron, smokey bbq, jammy plums, cranberry, black olives and maybe even soy sauce with serious energy, bramble and a hint of tar. The finish is long and fresh, with a lot of energy, and when paired with a perfectly marbled ribeye it SINGS. Bought in Berlin, absolutely worth it.

Strong wine, that went well with Chakhani Georgian stew. Powerful peppery wine, and unusual.

This is the best of Georgia. Truly good, sumptuous on the palate. With the quite exorbitant price :-)

Fantastic wine. Full bodied, dry with great back bone and excellent finish. My first wine from Georgia, south of Russia. Saparavi grape....a first as well

Really enjoyed this Georgian (and I'm not talking Bulldog country) full bodied red. Paired with an awesome meal at the Georgian restaurant Darbazia in Moscow. One of the best wines I've had during my travels in Russia.
