Dry Red SB Tavkveri
This is a delight and drinking gorgeously. Reminds me of sitting at a cafe in Tibilisi years ago. A good memory i’ve been chasing for almost a decade. Strong dark red color with dried cherries, leather, and chocolate on the nose. Structure is great, the tannins are not too intense and acidity is just right. Prunes and spice, a little earth. Rich.

Feb 2nd, 2024Maybe my favorite Georgian red so far. Very small production... the winemaker hand writes the vintage on each bottle. Unlike the inky saperavis I’ve tried, this tavkveri is redolent with dried cherries and stewed prunes, spices a whiff of cocoa and some slate- but the palate is lively, lithe, tart and delectably tannic. Ruby in the glass. Really wonderful.

Aromas of cherry, cocoa, red fruits on the nose
Tannins are beginning to be less grippy-could age a few years to see if tannins smooth out.
Deep flavors of cherry, balanced acids l, red currant undertones.
It's a special bottle. Beautiful. Magical.

Such a journey as this opened up. Tons of tannin. Cherry at first, but later it was much fuller and more dark fruit. Just the right acidity.

Jan 22nd, 2023I always love trying wines made from obscure varieties, especially when they're also from countries not normally associated with wine. This one was big and bold; slightly reminiscent of a zin from California, but less obnoxious. After a few days of being open it mellowed a lot and revealed rich flavors of wild cherries, spice, old leather, and some earth. So glad I tried this one! 100% Tavkveri. 2/27/23.

Aug 20th, 2022Reminds me of something in the middle of Pinot noir and Sangiovese. Initially dried cherries and spice. With a long decant (4+ hours), revealed more ripe, dark fruits. Long finish. Accurate name vis a vis “dry”; also acidic.

Apr 20th, 2020Lots of cherry and jam notes on the nose, but very dry, characteristically of georgia, tastes like a 1/3 of the what the nose smells, very interesting
