Tatomer
Kick-On Ranch Pinot Noir
Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, USA

Excellent California Pinot Noir in a fresh, energetic and focused style that does not sacrifice the whole. Stem inclusion for sure based on the nose. Subtle, fresh red and blue fruits, cinnamon, cedar and earth. Excellent acidity and snap to the palate, fine tannins are just slightly grainy, but it's 2014, that should resolve with time. All this from one of the best Germanic varietal winemakers in the US: #tatomerwines @Graham Tatomer

2021 opened January 2026. Herbal nose thyme and juniper. Sour cherries on the front. Light tannic body. I’m picking up pomegranate on the mid pallet with lots of juniper high notes. It has a long astringent finish which requires something rich and savory to mute it. Kind of unpleasant on its own, but a baguette with prosciutto and cheese balances it nicely. I’ll let it open up overnight in the bottle. I’ll see if it gets any better tomorrow night, but for now I’m giving it an 8.7 overall.
Day two: the herbal high notes have mostly disappeared. The cherry and pomegranate fruit notes have been fully revealed. It’s a much softer wine now with a brief finish. I’m not gonna change my 8.7 rating though.

Earthy floral and raspberry. Burgundian style Pinot from Santa Barbara. Very well done. Best of the 3 reds in his line up.
