Franci Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Glorious Bottle from a glorious producer in a glorious year. What more is there to say.

Rare and rather expensive, less than 4000 bottles made. No trace of wood. Just a wonderful Sangiovese, meaty, funky almost syrupy with tannins that make the back of your mouth dry and makes you thirsty for a next glass. Outstanding unfortunately rare and rather (very) expensive.

Brick color; perfumed nose with honeysuckle and lillies accompanied with concentrated dried fruits; powerful almost port-like on the palate with dried red and black fruit and caramellized nuts and a very long finish. A cru made in botti in the center of the region of around 4000 bottles.

Full bodied, full tannins, full acidity

Earthy and funky at first, before opening up to wonderfully expressive aromas of red and dried fruits, herbs, spices, and mushrooms. Wonderful on its own, and perfect with guinea fowl.

One of the nicer wines of the Brunello event in SF today. A little funky on the nose but not overpowering. Finished with note of coffee and chocolate.

Elegant & mature. Slight bricking. Trace tannins on opening but blew off within a few hours and only mild on day 2. Nose is ripe plum and balsamic. Palate is soft and elegant with mouthwatering layers and layers of dark fruit, cherry, leather, undergrowth, red clay. Long soft satisfying finish. To be savored.
