Stefano Farina
Barolo Nebbiolo
Tasty, but was on it's way out. Had over-cooked burnt fudge, sugar plum on the nose with a bit of dried purple flowers. The palate was fading terribly. Only a few seconds of concentration and dissipation was almost immediate. 1997's time has passed for this Barolo. If you have it, you must pop the bottle now and drink...the downward spiral has begun!

Color is brick red with a tinge of brown starting to come through and slight color in the legs. Incredibly floral on the nose with dried flowers, cured meat, and menthol. Violet is evident in the palate, which is lush with sour cherries, cranberries, and mushrooms. The wine is full bodied and has a long slightly astringent finish. The tannins are still a bit rough and need some time to get softer. Maybe wait a couple more years before opening.

Nov 25th, 2019Smokey tobacco, tar and black raspberry. Dark fruit profile with expresso and licorice notes. Subtle reductive feel. Fresh and vibrant with dark forest berries carrying forward. Tannins are soft and integrated with acidity holding its weight. On the elegant side of Nebbiolo and drinking well young - with a splash decant. I am much more found of this vintage than previous Stefano Forina offerings.
