Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
Cellarius Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Popped and poured; no formal notes. This was a bit of a head scratcher. I don’t know much about this wine but I thought it was merely okay and paled in comparison to the 2004 Chateau Montelena Estate that was served just before. The fruit was plentiful but a bit one dimensional and lacked the depth I would typically expect from SLWC. Honestly, it comes across like it was made to consume while young and maybe that’s the point?

Apr 28th, 2022At 9 years old this needed to breathe a week. Opened it and the only thing on the nose and palate was alcohol. Have been drinking a few of Stag’s other labels (Fay) from around the same time period and they are drinking much better - still bold and full bodied but with more fruit than alcohol notes.

Aug 26th, 2024This vintage not overly complex. Black cherry usually present in Stag’s Leap. Tannins are less evident. Exposed to air for 30 minutes prior to drinking. Was great with steak as usual. July 2022.
