St. Andrea
Áldás Egri Bikavér Kékfrankos Blend
Spectacular blend very floral aroma with a well balanced fruitiness and after taste character with minimal tannins.

I had very good memories of St. Andrea’s wines… this doesn’t fit.
A blend of (almost) everything French & Hungarian you can imagine - Can Sauv, Pinot, Syrah, Merlot, Kekfrankos & Kadarka.
Very fruity on the nose - blueberry jam with a healthy pinch of spice (cloves, black peppe, allspice).
On the palate this is very young. And comes across a bit disjointed - blueberries & (over)ripe plums, pretty harsh & dry tannins and the alc sticking out a bit in the finish.
Maybe it will come together, but now this is not really enjoyable. I’ll wait till tomorrow to see how it evolves.
Day2: surprisingly the wine came together and is very drinkable. Who would have thought.
It is now a very international style, w/o any sense of place. Raising from 8.6 to 8.8.

This is a serious Egri Bikaver... Probably the best i've had so far. Bought by my best half in Budapest while travelling there for business this week. The nose is inetense and shows cherry, strawberry, blueberry, licorice, gun powder, pencil lead, an earthy touch too. Wow. The palate shows superb balance, great acid drive, good width, blueberry, cherry notes all along, a gentle, soft mouthfeel that is gently disrupted by lightly carressing tannins. The finish is fruity, with blueberry and cherry, some earthy notes and a tiny savoury note in the rear. Wow this is punching way above its league...

Oct 12th, 2024Very much Blackberry on the nose, deep a bit closed sensation at first. With air and time it opens up and is a wellbalanced tanniner sour treat with lots of fruit, dry aftertaste. Love it and also Great with matured hard cheeses
