Lovely nose of lace, sweet cherries, earth and some earth! Spices as well. Gorgeous spices. So Pinot and so so aromatic. Just lovely. Palate is sweet and tart at the same time with mega sour cherries and terrific acidity and freshness. Likely needs some air to flesh out the edges. Good structure, freshness and depth. Not complex but great value.

The richest German PN I’ve had! It isn’t overly ripe / rich but it had more power than I expected. I don’t know much about the 2015 vintage in Germany but I’m guessing it was warm / similar to France?

Exciting to see what’s happening with German Pinot and this is a talented winemaker. But 8 years post vintage it’s clear this wine doesn’t have the structure to age. Best consumed within 5 years of vintage imo.

Glowing red, spectrums you can see right through like diluted cranberry juice. Clear but not weak. Nothing insipid, that is, even at 11.5% ABV. Aromas of spiced cherry cinnamon, freshly stripped cedar, and red roses. Bright and acidic in the mouth. Stern like the Germans do, but in brighter shades.

@delectable this is the Piesport Pinot Noir. I don’t know what distinguishes this but it’s not one of their reserve bottles. Still cherry focused, cherry cola. Some blood. Some dried rose and lots of dead leaves. Has developed some secondary notes: plums, cooked and dried fruits. It’s spot on. Good acids. Very fine tannins, very resolved. Not terribly demanding but just right. At this price I wish I could have one per week. The second day it gets plummier and takes on dried, peppery, beefy notes, like drinking magical Coca-Cola. Would be great at wu’s wonton house.
