Monsieur Ètain Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Happy birthday honey. 🎂🥳🎉🎈Love you endlessly.
Right inline w/ the 2012 vintage. Fruity and light earthiness. I see the critical range of 92-94. It depends on your love of fruit vs earthiness. The fruit loads on the front end and the earth & complexity comes on backend. The thing that holds this back from becoming more is its lack of depth. If you like fruit over deep complexity, you’ll love this 12. 3 hour decant and the truth is it picks up weight in the very end. For this producer vintage, not worth the price of admission.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish/ brick rim.
Nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, cola, vanilla, spices, espresso, light herbs, dark chocolates, tobacco, peppercorn, light alcohol and leather.
Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, figs, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, herbs, coffee, chocolates and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Well balanced with a great mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Elegant, rich and fruit forward.
This 14 year old is drinking very nicely right out of the bottle, and better with air. Tannins show up after 2 hours in the decanter, and bring in nice structure.
Thank you Scott for sharing this with me.
Does not drink like a 14 year old at all, and feels much younger. Will continue to age nicely in the next few years. Feels like it is nearing its peak. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.
Good by itself or with food. A great sipping wine to have with good friends. This is a gorgeous wine.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (85% new) French oak barrels for 16 months.
15.2% alcohol by volume.
94 points.
$225.

Crime to open this thing so young. Pencil lead and smoke.

Best red of the night by a mile.
Another screaming example from David and Kristen.

Small production, pricey but nice for special occasions. Blend of 87% Cab Sauv, 6% Malbec, 4% Merlot & 3% Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby with aromas of elegant ripe berry fruits and gentle oak notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plump blueberry and currants, with cedar, earthy herbs and floral. Fine rich tannins, well integrated, long finish ending with elegant fruit, leather and earthy oak. Wow! Tasting Sample!

Apr 26th, 2021Amazingly complex, firm, dense and concentrated, with a vivid, lively, structured mix of dried currant, mineral, cedar, sage and tobacco notes. Fills out nicely on the finish and holds its focus, ending with a satisfyingly chewy, rich bundle of dark berry fruit.

Mar 6th, 2021The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Étain is a powerful, muscular wine that speaks with booming authority. Blackberry, gravel, chocolate, spice and lavender are some of the many aromas and flavors that saturate the palate. Far from an easygoing 2018, the M. Étain is a brooding Cabernet that needs time in bottle to allow the formidable tannins to soften. It remains one of the most distinctive wines made in Nape Valley. Dollops of Merlot and Malbec from the back of the property round out the blend. There are 2,400 cases of the 2018, a large production within the context of Napa Valley for a wine of this level. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021)

Best 17 I’ve had (or so my somewhat sloshed memory thinks).
