Saxum Vineyards
James Berry Vineyard Grenache Blend
Good fruit. Time to drink I think but it still needs to open a bit. Some good dark fruit with wintergreen present. Trying another glass tonight to see how it evolves.

Jul 19th, 2020Fun afternoon at Classic with great company. Glad you could join us Bryan.
Spicy, light and in full stride! Compared to my ‘13 I opened, this is more accessible (no surprise). Black pepper, plum, spiced black cherry and ripe raspberries on the nose and palate. Some herbal and earthy notes. CdP-esque, actually. Very good and another example of a killer ‘11. Thanks for bringing this @Bryan Kesting !

Impressive for its bright and breezy nose. Carries through to the palette. Grenache presents rich dark fruits with a nifty tannic structure. Elongated finish. Rhone rangers in Pasa have come a long way

Nov 26th, 2021Hadn’t opened a bottle of Saxum in a couple of years, so was looking forward in anticipation...Corked! 😣 Decided to pull a second bottle and expectations were met. Beautiful nose and dark fruits. Lighter mouthfeel than expected, but still 15.5% ABV, which this wine carried well.

Mar 6th, 2021Excellent...but not as off-scale as I was hoping. Comes across as a bit overextracted, but I suspect that it needed to be chilled down a bit (or might be transitional). Still fantastic...and my second toast of the night.

Mar 11th, 2020Another great wine from Justin Smith, this is significantly more approachable than when we last had this in January of 2015. Incredible fruit on the nose and palate, the wine is dominated by the grenache but what surprises me is the extent to which the mourvedre in the blend. Really terrific!

Feb 11th, 2017Roses and licorice, whiff of toasted marshmallows. Soy, dark chocolate, peach and cherry pie. Rich tannins, kind of tease. Tar, tobacco finish. 69% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 2% Counoise, 1% Roussanne.
