Black currant and blackberry with a finish of juniper and a touch of rosemary. Super long finish.

The ‘Bossman’ is a stunning blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Viognier that was aged for twenty five months in 60% new French oak before bottling. High toned white flowers combine with lavender and blackberry compote on this expressive nose. The palate is deep, layered and exceptionally good as the wine delivers rich black fruits that mingle with shades of creosote, baking spices and mocha. Fantastic in its youth, the ‘Bossman’ tells you that it has a long way to go in the bottle. Drink 2019-2035- 94

Dark ruby red. Qutie floral on the nose with tons of bacon fat and dark fruits. Medium tannins (6/10) with a medium body. Quite rich and plush on the attack with plums, black cherries and some minerality. A little dry in the long finish. Drink till 2021.

Crowd pleaser for sure.

2011. After waiting a year to open more of this, it was very worth it. Took the cake for me. Super concentrated with black fruit and cedar/leather and a nice flavor of black and red cherries came out after a while with a minutes long finish! Bravo.

Another BOSS vintage of boss man. 2012. This is so massively good, it deserves this moniker. Go for it. Now.

Lots gritty tannin for a wine that is so big and ripe. Not sappy but large and intense. Not my bag

Sanguis “Bossman” Syrah 2021
Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California, USA 🇺🇸

Overview
Bossman is Sanguis’s bold and expressive Syrah, led by Matthias Pippig’s vision of terroir-focused winemaking. The 2021 blend composition is 83% Syrah, underpinned by 10% Grenache and 7% Viognier—a structure that balances Syrah’s powerful core with aromatic lift and texture.

Aromas & Flavors
Expect dark, plush layers of blackberry, plum, and pepper, brushed with floral tones from the Viognier and savory nuances from the Grenache. The overall experience is rich, complex, and deeply aromatic.

Mouthfeel
Full-bodied yet elegantly structured. Fine-grained tannins and precise acidity make it both powerful and graceful, with a refined and resonant finish.

Winemaking Notes
Crafted with a portion of whole-cluster Syrah from John Sebastiano, co-fermented with its supporting varieties. The wine is vinified on native yeasts and aged extensively in seasoned and new French oak, allowing for depth and integration.

Food Pairing
A powerful match for hearty fare like grilled lamb, wild mushroom ragout, or grilled vegetables with bold sauces. Its composed intensity pairs beautifully with impactful flavors.

Verdict
Sanguis “Bossman” Syrah 2021 is a commanding yet nuanced red—richly concentrated and impeccably balanced. It’s a stellar showcase of Syrah’s potential when guided by both artistry and terroir. Cheers!
