Vibrant medium ruby with magenta hues; pronounced intensity aromas of ripe red cherry, ripe strawberry, strawberry jam, red plum reduction, mushroom, wet earth, subtle sweet spices, star anise; dry, medium plus acid, medium minus tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, pronounced intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium finish, ripe fruit well balanced with structure, classic pinot flavors with some extra ripeness, well made, very good

The 2017 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation wine that punches well above its weight. Then again, most of the fruit is from Domaine de la Côte, with a healthy dollop (20%) of grapes from Sanford & Benedict. Dark cherry, plum, spice, licorice and menthol infuse this radiant Pinot with tremendous fruit density and power. Dark cherry, plum, licorice and spice are pushed forward. There is so much to like. We had the 2017 Vintage on 1/33-24/20. I am increasing consumption of Santa Barbara wines as we are headed there in a few months. I hope there are better wines than this. Clove on the bouquet. Dark fruit and pepper on the palate. Short finish.
