See previous note for this Cuvée. Shows the brilliance of the 2019 vintage in Tuscany. Dried cherry and earth. I bought some newly released 2019 Brunellos last week which will be put in the cellar for a long slumber.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a three hour period. The 2010 Chianti Classico pours a deep ruby with a near opaque core; medium(+?) viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, developing and initially, slightly austere but an hour of air did wonders. Funky Montmorency cherry, pipe tobacco, red rope licorice, carnations, mushrooms, decomposing forest floor, leather, tomato leaf, cedar box, a bar of Irish Spring that has been drying out in my in-laws shower basement for years (super specific but IYKYK); there is a little bit of VA too…but this is Italy baby so what do you expect? On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with a bit of a high-grade Aceto Balsamico di Modena thing going too. The finish is super long, grippy and savory. A beautiful example from the southern part of Gaiole. This is entering its early drinking window and should be great for the next 10-15 years.

Cherry and earth. A typical savoury Chianti Classico - yet to fill out. Perfect with homemade Pizza. Try the next one in a couple of years.

Dried cherry, raspberry and earthy notes on nose and palate. Menthol and a skinnsy note indicating a Chianti Classico, with a mineral nuance. Medium bodied on the palate with the notes mentioned finishing with powdery smooth tannins. A classical (if I can say that) Chianti Classico. A great example of the style. After a while a tobacco note. 95% Sangiovese; 5% Canaiolo. Had my last bottle on 10th November 2024 with similar notes - savoury red cherry and raspberry.

Even in a year like ‘17, it pairs crunchy mouth watering acid with generous ripe black cherry. Well made.

Lacked character and energy. Just not interesting or enjoyable to drink.

Short notes tonight, post holiday dinner with our best buddy.

Nose has cinnamon cherry jam, bright blackberry, red raspberry, under-ripe blackcurrant and moist leather.

Palate has ripe blackberry, ripe currant, drying tannins and violets.

A few years rest is appreciated.

Big Chianti
It seems a very good vintage
Self-explanatory tannin
Big potential and far too young to drink
Great flavor and long after taste
A sangiovese for real men
