Zippy acidity. Really funky nose. Kind of smelled like a wet fart at first, but it came around with a little time with almost a sanguine like nose. Nice.

May 18th, 2015Dark red berries, cocoa and cola, baking spices on the nose of Saint Clair 2012 Pinot Noir. The acidity is firm and bright, complimenting the smokey herbed red fruits. Medium body, this would kill a roast chicken!

The nose is exactly what I expect from a kiwi Pinot Noir : black forest fruits, cherry, pomegranate, hay, earth and an oaky touch lurking in the rear. The palate is acid driven but doesn't lack structure and shows some matter : a stellar black forest fruits note shines all through it, there is some width in midpalate with a bit of grip and a vivid mouthfeel gives way to some edgy, lively tannins before a long and fresh finish with fruits and some of these oaky notes which are consistent with the nose. This is not a bad at all but could benefit from a couple of years of aging.
