Lose the fruit and you have a Bordeaux. These 8 and 9 year old merlots might have started life as fruit bombs, but for a good value napa merlot, they have matured nicely. Especially the 2013… it’s a right bank brother.

Really good value, structured but silky tannins, a core of black fruit, dusty cocoa, minty, well done.

Dark berry fruit on the nose, a very slight hint of peppers, a wonderfully balance of the tannins and even slight spice hints. Was pleasantly surprised with this as I’m not a frequent Merlot drinker. This bottle may change that.

A few more months in the barrel, make it 70% new French oak, and leave this in the bottle for another 5 years and you have something special. Not bad fruit here. Good blending with the Syrah and Cab.
